How do I apply for a WorldPay Internet Merchant Account?

Can new businesses apply for the Internet Merchant Account?
Yes, new businesses are welcome to apply. You do not need a trading history. Over 90% of all applications are accepted.

Do I need a bank merchant account and a separate payment gateway?
No, the standard WorldPay Internet Merchant Account is a complete, all in one, online payment solution. This is suitable for most businesses.

WorldPay do also provide their BankDirect service, which is a payment gateway only, for those companies that already have merchant accounts with their bank. This solution is required for some types of higher risk goods and services such as travel.

Can I accept International payments?
Yes, you can accept payments from anywhere in the world.

Can I accept payments in other currencies?
Yes, you can accept payments in any of over 120 different currencies. One currency is included with your Internet Merchant Account. Additional currencies can be set up for a small one-time setup fee.

Can I take orders over the phone?
Yes, you can use the Virtual Terminal to manually process credit and debit card orders taken by telephone.

Do you offer a repeat billing functionality?
Yes, you can use FuturePay Repeat Billing to automatically collect regular payments.

Can I use my personal bank account?
Sole traders can use a business bank account or a personal current account providing that your bank allows you to do so and allows payments in via BACS.

Partnerships and limited (Ltd or PLC) companies will need a business bank account. Most high street banks can provide a business bank account free of charge for 12-24 months.

Which credit and debit cards can I accept?
All major credit and debit cards issued anywhere in the world can be processed through the WorldPay Internet Merchant Account. The actual cards you can accept will depend on the country in which your business is based. UK merchants can accept all major credit and debit cards. Laser is available to merchants in Replublic of Ireland. ELV is available to merchants in Germany. Amex / Diners require you to have a merchant account directly with Amex / Diners.

How will customers purchases appear on their card statements?
Your company name will appear on your customers card statements. This helps to remind customers who they paid and helps to prevent chargebacks.

Do I need to have a website?
You can apply now without a website, but before you begin accepting payments online or by telephone, your website must be online showing products or services and prices, your terms and conditions, the relevant credit / debit card logos and your contact details. Even if you only intend taking payments by telephone, you must still have a website showing this information.

Can I use my own shopping cart with the Internet Merchant Account?
Yes. Or you can use the free FastCart shopping cart or any of hundreds of commercial shopping carts.

What is the maximum transaction limit?
The maximum single amount you can accept in one payment is the amount available on the shopper's card.

Are there any restrictions to the use of the WorldPay Internet Merchant Account?
There are various prohibited goods and services, including (but not limited to) tobacco, weapons, hard core pornography, pyramid selling, gambling, drugs and financial advice or financial services. There are some high risk goods and services which may require a security deposit or may require you to have a merchant account with your bank, for example, travel, high value electronic goods (laptops, consoles, etc). Second hand goods are not allowed (except antiques and collectables).

How do I apply for a WorldPay Internet Merchant Account?
You can apply online quickly and easily. Please read the notes before you start your application and have all information to hand. Your WorldPay account will be automatically set up and ready for use upon completion of your online application.
